View pased the largest of the wooden Ribs from the wreck of "The Helvetia"
on Rhossili Beach , to Rhossili Village .
On the 1st November 1887 the Helvetia - a Norwegian Barque
(a sailing vessel of three or more masts ), heavily laden with timber,
was wrecked upon the sands , surrounded by her cargo of 500 tons of wood.

Another wreck is nearby - The Vennerne (a Danish Barque) wrecked against the rocks of
Rhossili Cliffs in 1894, where it lies embedded in the sands below Old Castle Iron Age Fort.
