Prehistoric Submerged Forest - 6
Prehistoric Submerged Forest - 6

The 2014 New Year Storms , scoured the beach at Newgale , removing
enough sand to expose the remains of an ancient forest.
A "drowned forest" , submerged about 6,000 years ago , as a result of a rise in sea level.
As the 'Ice Age' came to an end rising sea levels , flooded low coastal areas - reworking
gravels and sands into sandy beaches and shinge ridges which gradually moved inland
covering forests in the process.
--------------------
As well as Amroth and Abermawr in Pembrokeshire these ancient forests can be found
at many locations around the Welsh Coast including Abergele / Rhyl (north wales) ,
Borth (west wales) , Goldcliff (south wales).
-------------------
In the interest of preservation most of the remains have been recovered with pebbles
as the storms and high seas had pushed the pebble bank landward.
