Palaeokarst Solution Pits
A sea cliff at Proud Giltar (SS 101.984) , has a pot holed surface in the
near vertical rock face.
An area that millions of years ago underwent erosion and was subsequently
buried under sediments , but has been exposed by the effects of later erosion.
"Palaeokarst" is the term for a rock or area that has undergone the karst process
(the disolution of soluble rocks) and subsequently been buried under sediments.

A similar feature can be seen on a horizontal limestone bed at Stackpole Head (1.5).
