Mining for Barite took place at the 'Pompren Barites Mine' in the cliffs at Porth Simdde.
The Barite (barytes) found in small pockets, was used as a white pigment for textiles, paper, and paint.
The line of timber stumps crossing the Beach are the remains of the Mines Wooden Pier.
The Pier carried a Tramway so that Barite (barium sulphate) could be shipped.
Pompren is Welsh for a 'Wooden Footbridge'.
