As the Path approaches the headland Trwyn Dwlban walk along the beach to see the next few photos.
Red Wharf Bay is famous for its Sandstone Pipes
- cylinders of brown Sandstone protruding down into pot-holed Limestone.
Around 330 MYA, an ancient Ice Age caused the sea level to fall exposing Limestone to
weathering and river erosion creating solution hollows (pot holes) .
When the sea level rose again, the pot-holed Limestone was buried in sand.
Erosion is now leaving the tops of Sandstone Pipes standing above the Limestone.
