
In 1220/3 a presumed Celtic Clas (religious settlement) was rebuilt for its new role as an
Augustinian Priory under the patronage of Prince Llywelyn Fawr.
St Mary's Church is the Chapel , the surviving building , of the Priory , heavily restored.

The Hills around Beddgelert used to be covered with the bright Cerise flowers of
Rhododendron Ponticum - this non native invasive shrub has been removed by the Park Authority.
