At the Llyn Rhos Ddu Car Park is a Sculpture of 3 steel 'Gafrods' - Marram Grass being dried -
turning from its green colour to a golden yellow.
In the 16th Century, planting of marram grass was ordered by the government to try and stabilise the dunes ,
with uprooting of the grass a punishable offence.
In the 18th and 20th Century weaving marram grass to make mats, ropes, nets, baskets and matting
was a thriving industry in Newborough .
Each local family having a patch of the dunes where they harvested the marram grass.
