Red rocks of Jasper (a semi-precious stone ) can be seen in the walls of this shelter.
A footpath off the Coast Path allows the summit of this low hill to be reached.
The remains of Carreg Quarry (SH1620 2920) can be seen on the lower slopes of Mynydd Carreg
Jasper was quarried 1904 / 1907 and again in 1914 , mostly cherry red, some pink, buff or almost white.
In 1905 an 11 ton block of Jasper was sent to London.
Jasper was used to clad the ground-floor exterior walls of the Norwich Union building in London.
