Looking over the Milestone (1826) to Beddmarach Bay and the Penrhos Coastal Park .
On the Milestone - Mona - is in Anglesey - roughly half way
between Holyhead and Bangor , where Telford built a Coaching Inn.
Mona is the ancient name for Anglesey. Anglesey in Welsh is Ynys Mon.
The path now joins the 1.2km long Stanley Embankment / The Cob .
Thomas Telford built the embankment in just one year and it opened in 1823.
It provided a direct and speedy route for mail coaches between London and Holyhead.
Previously Anglesey and Holy Island were only connected by the Four Mile Bridge
2km further south over the narrowest stretch of water.
