Cwm Idwal is a fine example of a hanging glacial valley.
The rocks of Cwm Idwal were deposited 450 million years ago and subjected
to a period of underwater volcanism.
During the last Ice Age smaller glaciers created ‘hanging valleys’ high above the floor of the main glacial valley.
