A view of Tomen-y-mur from the site of a small Roman Amphitheatre.
Tomen-y-Mur was a Roman military settlement (late C1) high on the moors above the Trawsfynydd Valley.
A Norman Motte (late C11 or early C12) was built on the site of the Roman Fort.
The Fort was built along the Roman road 'Sarn Hellen'- a 160-mile (260 km) route through Central Wales
between Aberconwy in the North with Carmarthen in the West.
Part of a reconstructed Roman Wall is near the ruins of the farmhouse.

A narrow lane East off the A487 , just south of A470 junction ,
leads to the site of a Roman Amphitheatre - now just a few green grassy banks close to the lane.
