Prince of Wales Quarry in Cwm Trwsgl at the head of the Cwm Pennant Valley

Buildings called “waliau”, literal translation “walls” , which were open-fronted shelters where slate-splitting was carried out. SH 5497 4995
Lowr Pic - On the top (fifth) level were a row of barracks for the quarrymen with a row of ‘waliau’ opposite. SH 5493 4999
At its peak, the Prince of Wales quarry employed 200 men and produced roughly 5,000 tons of slate per year.
The quarry was formally closed in 1886.
