Afon Cynfal Waterfalls / Gorge

The waterfall on the left is seen first (SH 7102 4087) , a dissused Railway Bridge over the Gorge is encounterd,
then the next waterfall (SH 7076 4100)
further on a Footbridge with a Victorian viewing platform , crosses the Gorge with the less impressive Rhaedr Cynfal Waterfall .
A "stack" , is nearby , Huw Llwyd's Pulpit, in the middle of the Afon Cynfal. Supposedly preached from by the 17th century preacher Huw Llwyd
Attractive waterfalls, rapid cascades and deep gorge walls are in the Afon Cynfal gorge , one of the finest gorges in Britain.
The gorge is in the Ceunant Cynfal NNR, one of the six large Meirionnydd Oakwoods in which the trees are predominantly
Sessile Oaks with a few mature beeches and holly, hazel, silver birch, rowan....
Because of their high humidity, the woodlands, some of the best examples of Atlantic Oak Woodland in Europe,
provide the ideal habitat for ferns, lichens and mosses.
