"Lutra Lutra"- an amphibious member of the weasel family / Relatively solitary animals / 
adults only  coming together , for a few days , to mate   / after 9 weeks gestation - females 
give birth to 1-3 cubs / cubs spend 13 - 15 months with their mother  to learn hunting and swimming skills .
Coastal otters have a wide range of prey to choose from , such as fish ,eels 
,mussels ,crabs , frogs, small birds and eggs. 
Small mammals may also be eaten.
Otters will in fact catch a range of prey since they are opportunists. They have been known 
to eat rats, shrews, mice, voles and water fowl , such as Mallard and Cormorant .
