Abereiddy from the 1840's to the end of that century was one of the main slate quarries
in Pembrokeshire .
A tramway used to go the harbour and the stone-works at nearby Porthgain .
On the edge of the car park the ruins of a small group of houses known as The Street ,
built for the quarry workers.
Pembrokeshire Slate (Ordovician ) was not as durable the Slate (Cambrian)
from North Wales and The Slate Industry eventually declined.
