Below Garn Fawr , a few metres down the road past the car park , is a cottage ( formerley
2 derelict cottages ) used as a retreat and studio , from 1963 by the artist John Piper
(1903-1992 ) , the neo-romantic English painter of architecture, landscape and abstract
compositions, designer for the theatre and of stained-glass windows, and writer on the arts,
famous for his romantic landscapes, views of ruined churches, stately homes and castles .
His first major painting trip to Wales was in 1936 when he visited
Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire
