
Built around 1600 by Welsh politician Sir Richard Bulkeley, with spaces for up to 1,000 nests .
The dovecote’s huge domed roof with a cupola on top so birds could fly in and out.
The inside of the Dovecote is lined with 1000 nest boxes.
The Pigeons provided meat and eggs for the table , feathers for the household .
Pigeon Guano was used as a fertilizer , in tanning hides and to produce saltpetre for gunpowder .
