The Ogwen River, emerging from Llyn Ogwen, begins its journey over the Rhaeadr Ogwen Falls at Pont Pen-y-benglog ,
then along the rugged Nant Ffrancon valley to the sea.
Llyn Ogwen is fed by a number of streams from the slopes of the mountains around it, including Tryfan and Pen yr Ole Wen.
The largest of these streams is Afon Lloer, which flows from Ffynnon Lloer.
From Ogwen cottage a short walk along the path along the A5 to see the upper steps of Rhaeadr Ogwen Waterfall as it drops into the gorge.
A gate further along the path provides access to a ledge closer to the waterfalls and crags.
