Llanberis - National Slate Museum

This fascinating museum is housed in Victorian workshops built in 1870 near the Dinorwic Quarry.
In 1809 a horse-powered tramway to the port at Dinorwic was built.
The Quarry expanded dramatically , becoming the second largest slate mine in the world
producing 100,000 tonnes of slate annually and employing over 3000 men.
The Quarry operated between 1787 and 1969.
