A closer view of the Castle.
In the 1230's Llywelyn the Great built the stone inner ward protected
by by the twin D towers of the immense Gatehouse ,
facing landward and providing accommodation .
The stone outer ward ,curtan walls and two towers were built by Llywelyn the Last in the 1260's.
Further building took place when the Castle was in the hands of Edward 1 and completed by 1292.
Owain Glyndwr captured the Castle in 1404 and it was in a ruinous state by the 1450's ,
only the Gatehouse and parts of the inner ward wall now survive.
