Blaenau Ffestiniog: Rhiw-bach Slate Quarry
Looking down the steep incline to the ruined buildings of Rhiw-bach Quarry.
Rhiw-bach Quarry was one of the very few Quarries which sent its production uphill and
then by the Rhiwbach tramway to Duffws Station - Ffestiniog Railways.
The Chimney of the Engine house can be seen with a mill nearby.
Rhiw-bach Quarry, although remotely situated, operated between 1845 and 1952.
The workers and their families lived on the site which contained a chapel / school house and a shop.
The Quarry site is now partly covered by forest.
Route: From Cwt - y - Bugail Quarry take the Tramway South to the Quarry ( in places a very wet path ).
