The Bridge over the River Dee now carrys the Borderlands Railway Line (Wrexham to Bidston).
A key feature of the Hawarden Bridge (1924) ,was the central section, which allowed it to function as a swing bridge.
It was able to rotate through 90-degrees to enable the passage of tall ships on the Afon Dyfrdwy / River Dee .
Hydraulic cylinders attached to a drive chain and sprocket used for powering such motion are visible beneath the bridge.
The pumping stations and their steam engines have been demolished , the movable section was welded shut decades ago.
