Moel Faban Slate Quarry - Rock Cannon
Moel Faban Slate Quarry - Rock Cannon

The Quarry / Rachub Village is some way inland.
The Boulder with the Rock Cannon has great views over Rachub Village to the Menai Straits .
Penrhyn Castle and Bangor Pier can just be seen in the photo.
This boulder has been bored with holes which can then be partly loaded with black powder (gunpowder)
and ignited to make explosive sounds , only a few holes can be seen however.
The Great Strike (lasting 3 years) at nearby Penrhyn Slate Quarry (wales largest) lead William Parry to organise a co-operative to take over several local quarries
including Moel Faban to employ locked-out Penrhyn quarrymen. Operations ceased at Moel Faban before 1914.
