Moel Hebog - Siliceous Nodules - 1

At an altitude of 556m - a section of the base of the rocky eastern face of Moel Hebog.
The unit is part of the Volcanic - Pitts Head Tuff Formation (450 million year old)
A distinctive band of Siliceous Nodules , with Columnar Jointed Tuff below.
The Nodules formed when Superheated Steam dissolved Silica which then recrystallized.

Location : a footpath from Beddgelert climbs straight up Moel Hebog .
Then a trek across the upper moorland to the site.
