Bowydd Quarry was worked in the 18th century but developed after being amalgamated with Votty Quarry in the 1830s.
Taken over by Oakeley Slate Quarries in 1933, the quarry closed in 1963.

In the distance modern slate working - material from the quarry tips can be removed for crushing to produce slate aggregate .
Also "untopping" where underground workings are uncovered to recover slate from the supporting pillars of the chambers

A steep road from the Blaenau Car Park leads to the old Quarry.
