Britannia Bridge Box Section
The Coast Path passes a section of the Britannia Bridge Box Girder ,
with a section of rail track and 3 memorial plaques.
Stephenson's original railway bridge was of a tubular system .
2 main spans of 140m and 2 spans of 70m , with 2 Tubes of rivetted iron box-girders for each span.
Following a fire the girders were damaged leading to the bridge being reconstructed
with metal arches to support the road and rail decks.
