Rhosydd was remote so it was normal practice for the quarrymen to barrack at the Quarry site.
The ruined buildings , including the twin rows of Barracks , still remain impressive .
Because the 5 Veins of Slate in the area dip at an angle.
The original opencast quarry soon developed into a mine with underground workings.
The mine closed in 1930.
A rugged path ,on the Snowdonia Slate Trail , climbs up to the Quarry Buildings.
