Columnar Jointing
From the Rhyd Ddu Path , instead of taking the signed route continue on the path to the Bwlch Cwm Llan Quarries.
An interesting rocky outcrop , north of the path, can be found with slowly fracturing Columnar Jointing in the Ordovician rock.
Sets of intersecting closely spaced fractures have resulted in the formation of a regular array of columns.
